The Descendants of General Court Representative John Pratt deeded the land for Pratt Street to the City of Hartford.
Pratt Street transitions into a bustling commercial center with the addition of the Cook Building, Unity Building, and the Society for Savings Bank.
Insurance and office tenants become the dominant commercial force downtown. Aetna agrees to preserve and maintain Pratt Street’s historic buildings.
The City of Hartford invests in streetscape improvements and appoints security and maintenance ambassadors. The Hartford Business Improvement District is established.
